From MLK to the Highway: North Corktown Design Charrette

Sat 09/22 09:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Multipurpose Room, Michigan State University, Detroit Center

Charrette-flyer

The North Corktown/Briggs neighborhood of Detroit is represented by a sparse, but growing population of longtime residents, farmers, creatives and fashionistas. Like many urban neighborhoods on the mend, the population is individually resilient, but lacking in cohesive community identity.

This design charrette presents a cross section of the people, businesses and institutions that influence this growing neighborhood and then invites participants to collaborate to create neighborhood concepts that forge a common sense of identity.

The full day event includes a introduction presentation, charrette session, lunch and final presentation. We will create a design brief, maps and a video that highlight existing community strengths and neighborhood influences. Participants will be solicited from the neighborhood, design and planning programs of local universities and local design firms.
Pre-registration is required. Professionals: $25, Students: $15.
