Building Community Through Design

Presented by the University of Michigan Penny W. Stamps Distinguished Speaker Series

Join the University of Michigan Penny W. Stamps School of Art and Design for a public talk by Keiji Ashizawa about the origins and work of Ishinomaki Laboratory. After an earthquake struck Ishinomaki, Japan in 2011, Ashizawa established Ishinomaki Laboratory to create a local community hub for recovery activities and craftsmanship. As CEO, Ashizawa strives to energize people with the spirit of DIY designs, while helping youth explore paths to a profession by improving their skills while nurturing community revitalization.
